Charlie SimpsonThe efforts of a small seven year old London boy to raise funds for the Haiti appeal has become an internet sensation which has resulted in over £135k being donated on the young lad’s Just Giving page.  Diminutive but determined Charlie Simpson has had well wishers donating money and leaving comments from all over the globe, from France, Italy, Finland, Hong Kong, USA, Canada, New Zealand and of course dear old Blighty to name just a few.

Charlie  – a star is born!

Charlie was so moved by the plight of the people in Haiti he asked his parents if he could do a sponsored bike ride.  His route around his local park would be approximately 5 miles and Charlie was hopeful that he could raise £500 to help those devastated by the earthquake. His parents created a Just Giving page, hoping that family and friends of the plucky seven year old would agree to donate some money.  Charlie’s message on Just Giving says:

My name is Charlie Simpson, I want to do a Sponsored Bike Ride for Haiti because there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives.  I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti.

I am going to cycle around South Park as many times as possible…. (at least 10 laps, I hope!). Please can you sponsor me and all your money will go to UNICEF who are collecting for Haiti.

THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH!

Charlie.

Charlie and his parents are astounded by the amount of money raised, Charlie’s father Dan commented on the BBC website “We cannot believe the incredible response from the UK public.

“Charlie is so grateful to people for sponsoring him and he is delighted his bike ride has meant Unicef can help so many children in Haiti.”
