Big news this week for the brick and mortar bingo chain Riva Bingo is that they have sold off half their bingo empire for an undisclosed fee, which includes Beacon Bingo to Brian Mattingley the ex-Chief Executive of Gala Bingo. The decision to sell the clubs to Brian Mattingley who is also a non executive director of 888 holdings, is to allow the remainder of the Riva Bingo clubs to have a fighting chance to survive the current economic downturn.
It is no doubt a relief not only to the staff but also the regular bingo players of the clubs concerned that the decision has been made to sell rather than close down the clubs. The remainder of the Riva Bingo clubs will continue their operation under the guidance of Simon Hannah, who is hopeful that by releasing half their clubs that they will be able to remain focused and that the sale of the clubs will allow them to ease the current debt burden that the company is suffering.
Brian Mattingley has purchased the Loughborough, Lowestoft and Cricklewood Beacon Bingo clubs as well as two Riva Clubs. Mr Mattingley has a history in the gaming and leisure industry and has over twenty years experience as a company Director. Mr Mattingley has his fingers in many pies at present after investing time money and know how into the new upmarket eatery, OTT Restaurant at Bourne End Marina and Pips Café in Marlow. Mr Mattingley and colleagues sold their stakes in the Gala Leisure Empire for £1.2 billion in 2003. There had been previous reports that Riva Bingo might be joining forces with Buckingham Bingo, this however does not seem likely unless of course Mr Mattingley has other irons in the fire!
