Earlier that day, she’d won £700 playing bingo, and was on such a high that she decided to rush out and buy ten EuroMillions lines instead of her usual five. That evening’s draw happened to fall on Good Friday, and what a Friday it was! Kelly’s decision to double her draw tickets paid off amazing well, winning her the Millionaire Raffle and a cheque for £1,000,000.
Kelly lives at home with her mother, boyfriend (Jason) and two-year-old daughter in Runcorn, Cheshire. They were recently invited down to the Goodison Park football ground (the home of Everton FC, of which Kelly is a massive fan) to collect their cheque and pose for press photos. Kelly says she’s “ecstatic” about her win, and that although it all seems rather surreal, the reality is finally starting to sink in. However, in order to “make it feel real,” she’s eager to get spending some of her winnings, and added that these types of situations “don’t happen to ordinary working-class people like me.”
The flight attendant bought her winning lottery ticket from a Co-op store in her local town, and when she announced her good news to her EasyJet colleagues on April Fool’s Day, they thought she was pulling their legs. Kelly and Jason are already planning to put the money to good use, starting by moving out of Kelly’s mum’s and into their own home. They’re also planning on buying new cars, and taking a well-deserved trip to Sharm-El-Sheikh in Egypt for Kelly’s 30th birthday. The air hostess is looking forward to being served on the plane, instead of being the one providing the service, and she’s already counting on treating herself to a few cocktails during the flight. Both Kelly and Jason plan to keep their jobs (Jason is an assistant project manager at B&Q), but for now, they’re planning to enjoy every minute that they can with their newfound fortune.
