Sad news reaches the Bingo Hideout newsroom today that another bingo hall will be closing its doors to the bingo playing public in September. The report has been published on the ‘This is South Wales’ website and states that the online news publication has received confirmation from Top Ten Holdings that the Empire bingo hall in Neath will be closing, though refused to give any further information. The Empire Bingo hall is located in a former cinema building on The Ropewalk, and although a little jaded still has a very loyal following.
Regular bingo players have broken hearts
The bingo hall players are said to be ‘distraught’ at the news of the closures, which was announced during a bingo games session this week. Some of the players interviewed for the local news expressed the general feeling amongst the Top Ten Empire bingo hall regulars, saying that everyone was in tears, with one lady saying that her mother had been a regular at the bingo hall for the last 33 years. Although the members of the bingo hall are clearly upset at the proposed closure the comment left by some of the general public is less sympathetic with some stating that the Top Ten Empire Bingo hall is very run down.
Yet another nail in the coffin for bingo halls?
Whether the bingo hall is run down or not is really beside the point, it is a fact that many people still see their regular visits to the Top Ten bingo hall as a vital part of their social life and without it will be forced to look further afield for their weekly bingo sessions. The Bingo Hideout has covered the crisis faced by bingo halls with many articles and along with other big bingo industry names such as Mecca Bingo and Gala Bingo have been trying to raise public and government awareness to the problems faced by struggling bingo halls with increased taxation, the smoking ban and changes to player habits which unfortunately includes participation in online bingo. If you are interested in saving this vital part of British culture, which is most definitely under threat of extinction by the current unfair taxation levied by the Government then please visit the I’m Backing Bingo campaign pages and register your support.
