Bingo Hideout sometimes hear of active bingo players who reach that magic age of 100, but until now we have never heard of an active bingo caller reaching such a grand age. Cecily Gaunson of New South Wales doesn’t only call the bingo numbers once a week at her bingo hall, she is in fact a bingo caller three times a week – an occupation that she has been following for almost 40 years. Cecily is such an avid bingo fan that she doesn’t intend to retire from her bingo calling activities until she can’t continue any longer, which at the rate she is going won’t be for some time to come.
Laughter is the best medicine
The lovely story about the bingo calling centenarian is told on the ABC News site and has a video clip of the elderly – but sprightly – bingo caller in action. She likes to entertain the regular bingo players with a little friendly banter and a few impromptu jokes, and believes that “laughter is the best medicine for anything.” She attributes her long and very active lifestyle to a hearty breakfast and more importantly being a non-smoker. She has very good advice to others who might like to enjoy a very long and fruitful life, she says in the ABC news article “Just keep active and keep going whatever you do. Don’t sit home and mope,”
New Years Day birthday saw Cecily move to the one hundred club
Cecily turned 100 on New Years Day, and celebrated as might be expected with her friends at the bingo hall. She revealed in the interview for ABC that she has received kind goodwill messages from The Queen, the Governor-General and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. The team at the Bingo Hideout would like to wish Cecily a very happy 100th birthday and we hope that she may enjoy many more to come.
