The family of Mark Speight's late fiancee have paid tribute to "a deeply special person" after he was discovered hanged close to a London railway station.

Mark Speight: 'Vivacious personality'Police confirmed the TV presenter was found by rail staff on the roof of a building next to Paddington Station, in west London, on Sunday morning.

The 42-year-old had disappeared on April 5 following the inquest into the death of his fiancee, the actress Natasha Collins.

A statement issued on behalf of her family said: "We were devastated to lose Natasha earlier this year and for Mark to have now died as well is tragic.

"Mark was a deeply special person, his loving nature and kind heart made such a difference to our lives.



"In the past three-and-a-half months since Natasha died we as a family have grown closer to Mark.

"We can see why Natasha loved him so much as we grew to love him even more.

"Our thoughts are with (his) family at this sad time."

Kirsten O'Brien, his co-presenter on children's show SMart, said Speight was "without doubt the funniest man I've ever known."

She said: "Mark could find light in the darkest situations for others. I'm only sorry he couldn't find it for himself."

Mr Speight's father, Oliver, said he had lost a "wonderful" son who would be "very sadly missed".


Fiancee Natasha CollinsHe thanked his son's friends and colleagues at the BBC for their support throughout his career and during his recent troubles.

A post-mortem to find exactly how the presenter died and identify how long his body lay undiscovered is to take place.

Mr Speight had gone missing six days earlier and there remains concern about the length of time it took to find him, despite several public appeals.

Sky's crime correspondent Martin Brunt said: "Questions are bound to be asked on how Mark Speight's body could have apparently remained undiscovered for six days in a busy station.

"It is even more surprising since there had been a police appeal and a search relating to his disappearance."
