Men are more honest about their spending habits than women, according to a new survey about online gaming

  • Two thirds of men tell their partner exactly how much they spend playing games online – compared to just one third of women
  • 1 in 5 women won’t tell their partner how much they really spend playing games online
  • 25% of women admit to telling their partner they spend less than they really do playing games online

29 May 2009 – Male online gaming fans are proving more honest than their female counterparts, according to a new survey from BingoHideout.co.uk, which found that two thirds of men tell their partner exactly how much they spend playing games online – compared to just one third of women.

The survey questioned over 2,000 people across the UK, and found that one in five women said they could not bring themselves to tell their partner how much they really spend on games such as online bingo – compared to 1 in 10 men.

Women appear happier to stretch the truth about how much they really spend on gaming sites – nearly 25% admitted to telling their partner they spend less than they really do, compared to just 10% of men.

Director of Bingo Hideout, Ben Thorns, says: “The survey was a light-hearted way of looking at players’ spending habits, and just what they will tell their other halves about their successes and losses. The findings showed that women are more likely to be selective with the truth, even when there’s not significant amounts of money attached to their play.

“For women games such as online bingo are all about the social side available through the chat rooms. There’s a strong community offering everything from gossip to advice and support, and it’s a world they may not want to share with their partner so they feel entitled to a few secrets about their spending habits and wins.”

The majority of men and women said they spend up to £50 a week on gaming sites, but one in six women and one in 10 men said they spent up to £100 a week, with some stating they spend up to £1,000 per week playing online.

In terms of winnings, women seem to be luckier than men, with 1 in 10 winning between £1,000 - £2,000, compared to just over 1 in 20 men.
