bingoballs

Having an interest in all things bingo and dramatic Joy has come up with an idea for the local amateur dramatics society. Hackney being too far away for a day trip to see the play Joy has written one of her own. Set in a local bingo hall it's the story of a group of friends and their ups and downs, personal and bingo. It starts with a campaign to keep the hall open after the smoking ban and increase in taxation. A group of ladies have been on a trip to London to lobby MPs about the tax increases and much is said about their adventure aswell as all the traitors who have gone over to on line bingo, cheap booze at home and as many fags as they can smoke.

As act one finishes there are ructions over an advertised cash prize that was reduced owing to a printing error and two seats are empty because a couple with thirty years attendance had organised a trip to a rival bingo hall and therefore been banned for breach of membership rules.

Act two opens with a drunk causing a stir as play begins and he has to be evicted closely followed by a lady with a pretend cigarette who presumably is a pretend threat to the rest of the members. The pre bingo gossip has been good as the newspaper headlines outside talk of someone who has stolen thousands from a charity to fund her bingo habit.

Feeling rather pleased with the script and imagining local leading lights in all the different roles, Joy presented it with a flourish to the darlings of the local society to be told it was far fetched and couldn't possibly happen in real life!
