Play online bingo to win
Play to win

Even if you’re a seasoned player of internet bingo, it’s always good to pick up a few insider tips to boost your current game. So, we have put together a quick guide to help you improve your gaming experience.

Although we all know that our favourite game is a game of chance, online bingo is also brilliant fun that can be enjoyed more when you think you’re in with a better chance of winning!

Follow our simple rules and you could hit the jackpot

The golden rule of play whether it’s your first time or if you’re trying out a new site is to never give your account details unless you trust the site implicitly. Using big name sites or sites recommended by trusted sites such as ourselves can point you in the right direction and help you to avoid online scams. Look for obvious contact details on the home page if you are unsure and if these are not in evidence, choose another site to play on.

Online bingo or bingo halls?
online bingo or bingo halls?
This week we thought we’d take a look at what the differences are between online and live bingo experiences.

Bingo halls are still an incredibly popular way to play our favourite game, and the chances are if you’re a regular on any of our recommended sites you might have missed the changes going on in live bingo. After all it is of course still possible to enjoy both - especially if you’re a currently a member of Gala or Mecca.

The main thing we’ve definitely noticed over the last few months in various forums are comments that bingo halls are now much nicer environments to play in now the fug of smoke has been lifted. Since the permanent smoke screen was the biggest turn off for less regular players, live bingo is becoming more popular again since the smoking ban came into affect.

ImageBack by popular demand, here’s part two of our chat glossary. You can read the first part of our chat glossary here. Every time we notice new phrases appearing in chat, we add them to our ongoing study of this evolving ‘language’, which is created by you, the players.

Used to save time during game play, these acronyms can come across as quite puzzling to newbies. This is the Bingo Hideout attempt to demystify what’s going on for new players and for those who have been out of the game for a while.

AFAIK: as far as I know.

AFK: away from keyboard. Used in polite conversation to let CMs and other players know that a player is absent momentarily. Often used instead of GGP, which is generally frowned upon in most chat rooms.

Online bingo chat
Chat rules
Chat is a funny business, and is treated differently from site to site, which is why it’s always great to play around with various sites before settling into one with a style that suits you. Finding the roomies with the same sense of humour as you and the site that best lets you express it is one of the best features of the online bingo game.

There are some sites for example that go about awarding roomies for politeness to CMs and other members of the chat (for example the Bingonanza site who commend politeness on their ‘What’s New’ page).

Other sites let you talk about certain issues if no one is present that is likely to be offended for example some sites prefer ladies not to speak about personal problems if a man is present whereas if its just a group of girls online such chat is fine.

There are, of course, also exceptional cases where all of the usual rules are thrown to the wall such as Norty Nite which is currently held on Fridays in the Indigo Hall over at Bingonanza . Cited from the outset as being offensive to those with a faint heart this section of the night is given over specifically to explicit gaming and stands alone – to our knowledge - in being the only time that such chat is permissible.

As far as etiquette is concerned each site has it’s own specific rules which are to be followed whenever you join in the conversation, but we have compiled a list here of generally applied rules for chat to help you know where ‘the line’ is.

  • Offensive language is never acceptable, and will always damage your privileges within a site. If you offend a member of the chat you will be asked to leave the room if it’s your first offence; after that it is up to the site how they will stop you from further causing a disturbance.
  • Offensive words are not acceptable, even if mis-spelt
  • Players must not use capital letter sentences as this comes across as being threatening. Any threatening or slanderous language is not permissible. Ever.
  • Players must always be respectful of the CM in charge of the chat and never argue with their decisions in play.
  • Finally, most sites do not allow the exchange of email information between players.

Online bingo guidelines
Keep bingo fun
This week Bingohideout has been shifting our focus to our members and their gaming habits to help you review your patterns of play in order to keep you safe. We have drawn up the following list of points to make sure that you and your friends are playing responsibly as it is the duty of bingo sites as much as the players of them to help avoid problems.

The most important factor in anyone’s playing whether its on bingo sites or playing casino games is the enjoyment factor. If you are playing in the hope of finding a quick fix to any financial problem, this is an unhealthy approach to any form of online gambling and should be abandoned immediately. A player who plays for fun knows that the odds of winning any jackpot are ultimately very small and doesn’t expect to win and so would not play outside of their funds.

You must set aside a monthly or weekly amount that has been properly budgeted for. Cutting into money set aside for rent or food is not at all advisable under any circumstance. Never borrow money to ‘chase’ a win with or to gamble with, even from friends. Getting into debt to play is never a good idea no matter how small the amount.

If you recognise any of these points as applying to you or anyone you know, you can get help through various means. Once you have identified a problem or feel that you might need extra advice or support, speak to someone as soon as possible.

Remember that each online bingo site recognises their obligation to help their members and will either have 24/7 Freephone support, or someone to contact you within a very short period of time as a matter of urgency.

However if you do not feel comfortable speaking to someone associated with your favourite site you can ring Gamble Aware on 0845 6000 133 or visit the official gambling help website for independent advice www.gamblersanonymous.co.uk

Another method of calming down your urge to gamble outside of the fun remit is to simply apply for a ‘time out’ period from the online bingo site you play with the most.

After your agreed self-exclusion period, the site will probably ask you to go over your fund budget and review this with you after another set period of time as part of their obligation to help you avoid further trouble.

How do the casino games compare across our top bingo sites?

With all of the Bingohideout top 10 sites hosting casino and slot games (with the exception of Foxy who redirects you to its sister site Getminted.com to play other games outside of bingo) we thought it might be helpful to our members if we gave an overview of these sites with regards to the jackpots and graphics available on non-bingo games.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at which games are available where:

Some of the Bingohideout top 10 only host a few gaming options outside of the main bingo games. Our number one bingo site Bingo Jetset for example are currently only offering blackjack and roulette as well as video poker, whereas Gala is only hosting roulette.

Littlewoods is also only offering choices of roulette and video poker on their bingo site at the moment, whereas The Sun Bingo is hosting six games other than bingo including their popular hamster race, and the Bingo Liner site also offers great versions of table games including two ways to win at video poker.

It would seem that Mecca is branching out into the table game arena more, introducing two new casino games of late- their versions of craps and blackjack 3-hand Vegas. This version of blackjack gives you 3 hands with which to beat the banker and win extra cash for bingoing.

The Top 3 for casino games

Having looked around, Bingohideout have selected these sites as our top 3, though, as we are bingo experts, you’ll have to play on each site to decide which is number one!

Clearly Jackpotjoy is not a solely bingo based site and as a result has a choice of 13 casino games with everything from lucky dice to their highly unusual and fun colour wheel game. With progressive jacks or better, the casino based slot is made easier with great clear graphics and easy instructions for those not familiar with table games.

Dream Bingo boasts of 30 casino games (including slots) and their Major Millions scratchcard game means that their choices are accessible to everyone whether seasoned table players or not.

Ladbrokes unsurprisingly has one of the most diverse options for casino play with (at the time of looking) over an 8m jackpot total across the lot in cash prizes. With everything from instant casino play to downloadable rooms for your computer and even your phone, it would seem that if you want to get familiar with the whole table experience Ladbrokes has the best choice to offer.

Guide to online bingo chat terms
Online bingo chat terms
As part of our ongoing commitment to making the game more accessible to all bingohideout has compiled another of our fabulous glossaries to help you get your head around all the acronyms in the chat room.

Whether you’re a newbie who is bowled over by all of the txt type chat or simply haven’t joined in the chat before here’s a little help with deciphering the most popular phrases around. GL!

A/S or A/S/L: age/sex or age/sex/location - used primarily when finding out about newbie players. Chat members use this as a quick means of finding out the basics about new members.

BRB: Be right back. If you need to leave the chat room for a few minutes to make a cup of tea or any other reason…

CH: Chat host - the person in charge of monitoring the chat in any room and maintaining a measure of decorum within the conversations. He or she may also invite members to play extra games and offer bonuses.

DHB: Don’t hurry back.

<eg>: Evil grin. Often punctuation is included in the message itself (as demonstrated here) which can make the chat look more obscure that it actually is; don’t be put off by this - try to ‘read into’ the picture that’s been drawn ;-)

FWIW: For what it’s worth. Used as a cover in advance of a roomie stating an opinion that they might not think is wanted in the current chat or in advance of an opinion that might not be popular.

FYI: For Your Information.

GL2U: Good luck to you. Used as part of the blanket politeness policy found in every chat room.

<g>: Grin.

GTSY: Glad to see you/good to see you.

IRL: In real life. Used as a put down to members overblown ideas within the chat room.

LOL: Laugh out loud. Probably the most well known of these types of acronyms, “lol” has spawned many others after it, but remains the most popular around.

HB: Hurry Back.

ONFL/OFL: On the floor laughing.

ROFL/RONFL: Roll on the floor laughing.

<s>: Smile.

<vbs>: Very big smile.

WTG: Way to go.

YW/YVW: You’re welcome/ you’re very welcome.

We hope that this glossary has made things a little clearer for you, though it is important to point out that there are so many variations in chat from site to site and even roomie to roomie, it would make no sense to list every single acronym around. In fact it would only serve to confuse the matter further - LOL/ RONFL! ;-0

Who is playing online bingo and why is it so popular?

Bingo is historically associated with older players, though in the last 10 years the bingo game has become more appealing to the younger generations with the introduction of nationwide jackpots and larger Progressive Jackpots (PJPs).

Bingohideout is very interested in finding out who is playing online bingo games in the newest age of the bingo revolution: the online bingo game.

More accessible (even to those players who are unable to leave home to play) and more appealing to a wider audience than ever, the modern 90-ball online bingo game couldn’t be further from the traditional images of dabbing numbers quietly in cold church halls for a small prize!

As a first impression of the current market, it would seem that a large number of the modern online bingo sites are aimed primarily at women with families or busy work schedules who are unable to get to bingo halls for games. Women aged between 25-40, these mums are looking to meet friends online and enjoy the thrill of the game as much as chatting online and this focus is reflected in endorsements such as Sharon Osbourne’s celebrity sponsorship of Gala bingo.

However Internet bingo is increasingly becoming tied to betting sites traditionally aimed at men, for example Ladbrokes and Betfred . Online bingo has spilled into the male gaming market since the gaming laws governing the Internet changed and this is reflected further in the placement of casino and slot games, even on more traditional bingo sites such as Mecca. With increasingly huge PJPs available it is no longer a female dominated fight to the jackpot in the modern game.

There are many sites to access and new ones turning up online all the time offering you fun in the comfort of your own home and, with the benefit of allowing anyone who has an Internet connection to play, there are no limits to the increasingly diverse audience of these great games.

There are additional benefits too, from roomie holidays and days out (e.g. with Foxy ), team bingo games on sites such as Bingo Jet Set or, as with the Bingofriends site, as a member you can simply have access to horoscopes and recipes. Choosing your home site carefully means that you can decide whether your gaming experience is private or a social whirlwind of new friends!

Bingohideout are hoping to make playing online bingo games for new comers and those who join different sites easier by starting and constantly updating our new bingo glossary so that you can try new things without guessing what you’re doing. If you notice any glaring oversights let us know and we’ll start the updating processing; as always we are very grateful of member feedback.

Bingo Card
A usual bingo card as played in a 90 ball game has 25 squares in total of which 24 are numbered and 1 is blank.

Cash Ball
Drawn before the game the cash ball denotes a pay off from the progressive jackpot in that game.

Chat Master (CM) or Chat Host

Known under a number of names depending on which site you play on, the chat master is the person in charge of monitoring the players chat during any game. The chat host is responsible for ensuring that no one is using rude or offensive language and instigates chat games as well as encouraging players to join in other online games and to take up bonuses as they become available.

Chat Games
Chat games are bonus games played between online players involved in the live chat during any game. Every bingo site offers chat games at different times, with some holding ongoing tourneys which mean players join in with chat games every day for a month in order to be in with a chance of winning the jackpot.

Coverall or Blackout
A coverall or blackout refers to a pattern on any card where all the numbers are marked. Often used for play in Progressive Jackpot games, coveralls are hard to achieve but are usually worth the wait.

PJP
Progressive Jackpots can be played for bingo or slot game and are frequently a very big amount of money.

Roomies
Referring to the other players in the game, roomies are the people online that you can chat live to while you play. Some sites offer roomie meets as well as team bingo games to encourage roomie friendships and others sites offer chat games where you win for your neighbour in the game.

Jackpot
The reason why we play, the jackpot is the big payout in every game. Jackpots can be a static set amount or PJPs where the amount increases as the game progresses.

Pattern
The shape the player needs to match in order to win the jackpot or prize in any game.

Winners trophy - slots and casino games
Win Big
Many the sites in the Bingo Hideout Directory not only host bingo games, but have a range of other types of games for players to get involved with including casino and slot games. There are often many great promotions on these games, which often get overlooked in light of the current spectacular offers on in Bingoland.

At Bingo Hideout we have been looking around to see what’s on this Holiday period for you so that you can check out a new way to play that could win you up to £10,000 or more in one of the many progressive jackpot payouts.

Check out Mecca bingo, for example: with their current promotion on slots you can get a £50 cash back sign up bonus when you register to play slots and you can still play bingo! As the winner of the WhichBingo.co.uk 2006 Site of the Year Award, Mecca is a name you know you can trust to keep you flush with both excitement and cash prizes! By combining this great offer with the odds of winning in their great prize draw promotion (where Mecca are giving away 2K of prizes over the Christmas Holiday) you know you are onto a winner.

Over at Bingo Liner there’s also a weekly promotion offering you the chance to win extra cash prizes in their slot Tourney. Running from Friday to Sunday every week this is a great chance to win additional money on your favourite slot or video poker machine.

Foxy Bingo has a great number of instant win games available including the ever popular slot machines.  So if slotties are your thing head over to this site and get them wheels of fortune spinning!  There are six games to try your hand at, some of which are special multiplier games that enable you to increase your winnings by up to 5 times - that’s right, up to 5 times your winning amount.  Now that’s quite a spectacular come back no matter how you look at it.

One that certainly catches the eye is the Pirates Gold Multiplier offering a jackpot of £25,000, which can then be boosted 5 times with the multiplying feature.  So take to the high seas and start finding that there treasure!!

Dream Bingo is well known for being one of the strongest bingo communities on the net and also has some of the best slot machines this side of Vegas.  Not only do they have all the great 3 Reel classics but they also have the visually stunning Video Slot Busters. These will not only blow your mind with the amazing graphics but will also blow your winnings sky high!  And if this isn’t enough to entice you over to their site, like the thousands of other daily game winners, then surely the jackpots, which can run into millions, will.
